This Pou was created by the Year 6 students of 2018.

The four main designs represent the four elements, Earth, Wind, Water and Fire. Spiralling up from the ground is a carved black vine. This represents the journey the students are on from the day they start at Mahora.

The elements show the complete set and range of experiences possible on their learning journey as the spiral vine weaves through them. As it reaches the top of the pou, the black top shows the Black Cap. This is where the students have gained the insight they need to show leadership, Kaitiakitanga, Manaakitanga, Ngākaupai, Whanaungatanga and Mauri.

As a Black Cap and as a Year 6 leader, students have the experience and knowledge of school, life and their journey to support the teina on theirs.

On the back of the Pou is the spine. This is in the yellow colour of the Mahora Values - Mauri. Each Year 6 student has written their name here. The representation here is to show that a rōpu is only as strong as its members combined. No one person holds up the group, but in supporting each other, we strive for greatness.

The whakatauki attributed to this Pou is:

Tūwhitia te hopo, mairangatia te angitū

Feel the fear, and do it anyway
