Pou 2020 - Pūmahara

The Pou Pūmahara is so called for being a provider of wisdom and thoughtfulness to our kura, our tamariki, and our community.

The pattern that we have used on the Pou this year is poutama.  This represents our tamariki and their journey to gaining mātauranga and understanding. The poutama is imbued with our school values and their involvement in our tamariki on their life journey not only at Mahora but for the rest of their lives.  This is shown by the poutama continuing through the Black Cap - meaning that the journey is still continuing for our tamariki

At the base we have have included the three baskets of knowledge te kete tuauri (the basket of light), te kete tuatea (basket of darkness) and te kete aronui (basket of pursuit). Te kete tuauri represents all the things we know.  Te kete tuatea represents all the things we do not yet know, and Te Kete aronui represent the pursuit of knowledge.

Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro, nōna te ngahere. Ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga, nōnā te ao.

The bird who feasts on the miro berry, theirs is the forest. The bird who feasts on knowledge, theirs is the world.

This connects our planting as a symbol of the forest of knowledge that our year 6’s have left for future tamariki
